Today's Lunch Outing
A friend and I went to Lumi Kitchen off McKinney and Hall Street. They serve empanadas and dumplings. We split 3 different dishes - (sorry I didn't get pictures but I will next time)
* (6) Shrimp, Cilantro & Jicama Steamed Dumplings - served with sweet and sour sauce
* (3) Spinach, Mozzarella, & Portabella Empanadas -served with cilantro cream sauce
* (6) Blue Crab & Cream Cheese Wontons - served with sweet chili sauce
All were "tapas" size - and fabulous. See link below.

If you go, please pay attention to the parking. You will need to park behind the restaurant. DO NOT PARK BESIDE IT - this is for "Hook Line and Sinker" and they will tow your vehicle. To get to the parking behind the restaurant, turn right on the side alley that is right before the restaurant... or turn right on Hall Street (by Breadwinners) and go down the alley behind Breadwinners and Primos.

My New Favorite "Slaw" Recipe
This is my favorite non-mayo coleslaw recipe
We made this for Ryan's graduation party on Saturday, and it rocked! We used one package of coleslaw mix and one package of broccoli slaw mix. Also, used thawed frozen corn instead of fresh. It was super refreshing and delicious. The dressing was good, and the cilantro gave it a wonderful flavor. For an extra kick, a fresh jalapeno was chopped up and added as well.

My First Soiree - circa 1987
Isn't this classy? Everything was matching red plastic. I do not remember the menu, but keep in mind that this was definitely a party on a budget. I think I made like $8.00 a hour - that was good money for a 22 year old.
Remember when we didn't have to use area codes?
Check me out in my over sized black shirt and red sweater skirt. I think I was actually thin but you can't tell with that outfit.

Rachael Ray's Cheesy Corn Bites
I made this recipe for Memorial Day. I placed a jalapeno slice on each one using jalapenos in a jar. Next time I make them I might add cumin and cayenne pepper for an added kick. They were a big hit, and gone almost instantly, so I recommend using more than one bag of Tostito Scoops.

Where's a Safety Pin when you need it?
At Northpark Mall in Dallas
I took this picture from Northpark AMC Theater window. I've been there many times, and never noticed it. So, time for a lesson in arts and culture:This is called the Corridor Pin Blue by Claes Oldenburg and Coosjie van Brugger.
Please click on the link below for further details on how it ended up in Dallas.

Dallas Museum of Arts - Jazz Under the Stars
Jazz Under the Stars is a free concert at the Dallas Museum of Arts. They kicked off the summer series last night. It is every Thursday night until June 25th (after that - it's just to hot to be outside).
It was a last minute decision to go, but I do not know why I do not go more often. The DMA is only a block from my office downtown.
View from my iPhone - I do not know any of the people in this picture.

http://www.mosquitorepellent.com/Who needs stinky "OFF" Spray, when you have "Thermacell" - not only does it repel up to 98% of mosquitoes, but also repels black flies, no-see ums (WHAT ARE THESE?), sand flies, and other flying biting insects.
It creates a 15 x 15 ft ”Bug-Free-Zone” (thankfully, that doesn't include guys).
Our friend, Allison "Al", came prepared with this handy accessory no girl should be without.
The guy next to us just happened to have one too, but it was unopened. Our gal pal, Al helped him out. Turns out our new friend is a chef, so we were treated to a sampling of pork tenderloin, shrimp, crostini, and champagne.
