Just a Girl and her Walker

Many have asked how I get around and how is my leg "dressed". So, for those who need a "visual", here you go. As you can see, my walker is very plain.. nothing fancy. I basically "hop" on my good leg since I cannot put any pressure on my right leg. My leg has a splint that starts out straight, they wet it and it forms to my foot and goes up the back of my leg. They then put a mesh material over my foot and leg, and finish it up with ace bandages. As I mentioned before, I might get a partial cast on my next visit - which will definitely warrant more pictures.

As Seen on TV - Part ll

This is the bag I am currently using. (Yes, it's vintage Coach) It has to hold my cell phone, house phone, remote control, meds, lip balm, etc. as I move between my office at the breakfast table and the recliner (where I elevate my leg in the evenings). It also carries my shampoo/conditioner from bathroom to kitchen so I can wash my hair.
So, you can see how I might "covet" The Buxton Organizer Bag! It holds all your crap AND 2 BOTTLES OF WATER!!!
This reminds me of the bag from the 1970's commercial... remember it wasn't as sleek, but your keys "snapped" on the inside of the purse. I thought it was the coolest purse ever, and I wanted it in "bone". (c'mon, I was like 7 years old)... Now, I want the new one in RED... because I have better taste now.
Be careful - when you click on this link - it's a commercial.. so don't let the sound scare you.

Working out

Well, it was just a month ago that every day I'd dread going to the gym after work.. and some days, I'd give in to the dread, and not go... now, I'm sitting here wishing I could go. It's funny how you don't really appreciate something fully until it's taken away from you - even if it's temporarily. The Dr assured me that I will have full use of my leg - it's just a matter of when. I hope that when the time comes, that I continue to appreciate the privilege and not grow to dread it as time goes by. All I know is now that I'm anxious and can't wait. They've already changed the name on me.. It was White Rock Gym, and it is now "Gold's Gym"... which is cool. That was only being gone a week. I hate missing stuff. I only hope the "pricing" doesn't change now that we're a part one of the top 2 gyms in the country. The one good thing is that they put my account on hold for payment for 3 months due to medical condition.

Well, I plan on weighing this weekend - even though it will be skewed from the weight of the splint.. I think I can get a baseline - because the goal now is to definitely NOT GAIN ANY WEIGHT... if I lose some, even better!

Earlier I kept thinking as I'm working at my makeshift desk at the breakfast room table.. if I only had the EASY CURVES. I could be at least giving my breasts a lift.

Happy New Year

Things I'm excited about in 2009:

1) Tech playing Ole Miss today. I hope they win.

2) Aunt Janae has made it to Texas. Can't wait to see her soon. I see many trips this year.

3) Getting a new car - it wasn't a goal for 2009 - but looks like it's a necessity now.

4) Planning Ryan's graduation party.

What's Aunt Janae Doing Now?

Well, the most awesome thing EVER. She is "Texas Bound". My uncle got a job in Fredericksburg, Tx (right outside of Austin). They left San Diego on Monday, and should be arriving in Fredericksburg today if they haven't already. They will be only 3-4 hours away from me now. An awesome way to start off 2009.

Dr Visit Update

While the swelling had gone down in my knee and thigh, it was still pretty bad in my shin, ankle and foot. I officially have a cankle. I took pictures when they unwrapped the dressing - but it's so gnarly that I will only show them to those who request to see them. So, no xrays today. Nor did they remove the stitches. I'm to go back in 2 1/2 weeks - Thursday, 1/15 - almost a month from the accident. He will remove the stitches and do x-rays... then determine if I get a cast or boot. So for now, I'm walker bound - no walking on the right leg - with elevation as high as I can stand it.

P.S. I was informed by the Dr's Assistant - who participated in my surgery, and he re-dressed my leg today - that I didn't "break" my leg, I "busted" it!

My 'boys

I'm so sad that it has taken me 2 days since the horrible game against the Eagles to acknowledge them. As par after a terrible loss, I can't listen to the news commentary nor have I been able to read my favorite sports blog "No Joshin'". The game wasn't even over yet, when one of the announcers was asking if Wade Phillips will still have a job. I will leave the dissection of what happened to a team that at the beginning of the season had Super Bowl talent to the "experts". All I know is that I'm sad that the Cowboy football season is over, I still {heart} Marion Barber and Tony Romo. Win or lose, I am and will always be a Dallas Cowboy fan!

2 Weeks

Wow. It's hard to believe that my accident was 2 weeks ago. It really just seems like last week. I have been home from the hospital since 12/19. Today is my first time to leave the house. I have my first follow-up Dr visit for my leg. I can't wait to see how it looks once he removes the dressing on it. Right now, I just have a splint with gauze and ace bandages. Dr didn't want to put a cast on it due to swelling. The swelling has gone down considerably. My legs actually match each other. For a while, the right leg was humongous. So, the questions of the day are 1) will I get a cast; and 2) HOW MUCH LONGER BEFORE I CAN WALK ON IT??? Stay tuned.. visit is at 8am this morning.

Merry Christmas

Well, I have to say this is the most stressfree Christmas I think I have ever had. I am a last minute shopper, so I'm always going, going, going until Christmas Eve dinner with our family friends. Not to mention, planning the menu for Christmas day.

This year, I ordered a couple gifts online, and had Ryan buy my nieces clothes from The Gap. If I had been out shopping, OMG! I spend way too much money on so many things I don't need to get.. especially when I shop for food.

Ryan got home from Lubbock last night. He fixed the family size Stouffers Lasagna (thanks Wendy and Shawn) - and we watched "Charlie Wilson's War". Today, my brother is bringing a ham, and my dad is bringing potato salad..

I am extremely blessed. My family and friends have been amazing this past week. I was not able to buy presents this year, but I send out my love and overwhelming appreciation to them all.

A New Perspective

Having a broken leg is crazy. I've taken so many things for granted - going to the bathroom, taking a shower, fixing a sandwich, doing laundry, putting on my pants, etc. I have mastered going to the bathroom on my own with a walker, but that's about as far as it goes. I can also make my own eggo waffle using a toaster.

During the day I sit in a old recliner we moved out of my bedroom into the living room. Thank goodness I never sold it. We keep water, meds, face wipes, antibacterial soap, magazines, books, phone, PC, etc all near me. I am so blessed with family and friends. Everyone has been so amazing, bringing me food, doing my laundry, doing my dishes, taking out the trash, washing my hair, etc.

Stayed tuned... I will blog more once I get my pictures downloaded.
